For hardness testing of elastomers and plastics, Shore® Durometers are ideal. Shore Instruments conform to all ASTM standards, are easy to use, and affordably priced. The combination of spring force and indentor geometry per ASTM D 2240-03 determines the type of Durometer required for a particular hardness range. No one type of Durometer can cover the entire hardness spectrum.
Shore Durometers are designed to determine the indentation hardness of materials ranging from cellular products to rigid plastics. Each Durometer Type is made to a specific scale (i.e. A,B,C,D) and is capable of producing a value between 0 and 100. We also supply the Micro System, which is designed to determine the hardness of soft elastomers too thin or too irregularly shaped, such as small o-rings, for measurement with standard Durometers.
For assistance in choosing the most suitable Shore durometer for your testing application, please refer to our Durometer Scale Selection Guide.
